Visitors to English Lakes have donated an incredible £187,500 to date through our Visitor Giving scheme. They spent a day with Rob Clarke, National Trust Basecamp Community Ranger and a wonderful team of Fix the Fells volunteers committed to keeping the Lake District hills maintained and accessible for millions of walkers each year. In July 2017 we will discover whether the Lake District is to become the UK’s first National Park to be awarded World Heritage status. Seeking inscription under the ‘cultural landscape’ category, this is defined as a combined work of nature and man.  There have been many Lake District businesses, sometimes starting out as no more than a back room cottage industry, which, through perseverance, hard work and love of the landscape, have produced a rich heritage of products and service that define this beautiful part of the world. Tony Cunliffe started his career at English Lakes on Monday, 27th April 1987 and since then he has been an integral part of the team here at Low Wood Bay. We love the fact that The Midland is one of Britain’s finest twentieth century Modernist buildings. However, being ‘a building of more than special interest’, awarded Grade-II* listed status in 1976,  means that we are faced with various challenges, both inside and out, when it comes to the operation of the hotel.

To celebrate World Tourism Day on 27th September we’ve put together a two-day itinerary for visitors to our Lake District hotels.
There are so many exciting things to do in the Lake District it can be difficult to know where to start, so our itinerary should help those who may not be familiar with the area and who may be travelling without a car.
