George Hutton, our Wild Boar Master of Malt, is getting quite lyrical as he takes us ‘Over the Sea to Skye’ in his latest Malt of the Month.
Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
The Skye Boat Song is a Scottish folk song recalling the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie to the Isle of Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. It tells how Bonnie Prince Charlie, disguised as a serving maid and assisted by Flora MacDonald, escaped in a small boat after the defeat of his Jacobite rising. (more…)
