Our toy dog, Sam found world wide fame when we sent him up to space from The Midland as part of a science project for children from Morecambe Bay Primary School. Before his space mission Sam has been capturing the imagination of Children as English Lakes mascot and founder of our Sam’s Club for many years. Here are 10 facts you may not know about Sam the dog.

1. Sam is a Bearded Collie

The original Sam was faithful bearded collie companion to our late Chairman and Managing Director, Michael Berry and came to work with him each day.

2. Sam’s Club welcomes every child

Sam’s Club is how we welcome children to each of the family of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues.

3. Sam’s Goody Bag

Every child between 5 – 10 years receives a ‘welcome’ goody bag with love from Sam.

4. A Companion for Every Guest

Sam the Dog sits on every hotel room bed.

5. Sam’s Clever Collar

Multi-tasking Sam also uses his collar as a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. On the reverse is a message stating that if you would like to buy a cuddly Sam then 50% of the purchase goes to charity.

9. Sam Feeds Children in Africa and India

In each of our restaurants, our Sam’s menu for visiting children also helps feed some of the most deprived children in Africa and India, a proportion of the revenue being sent overseas.

10. Space Sam is only a Puppy

Sam in Space is a ‘little brother’ of our standard Sam cuddly toys – a smaller, lighter Sam capable of soaring to great heights.
