Our toy dog, Sam found world wide fame when we sent him up to space from The Midland as part of a science project for children from Morecambe Bay Primary School. Before his space mission Sam has been capturing the imagination of Children as English Lakes mascot and founder of our Sam’s Club for many years. Here are 10 facts you may not know about Sam the dog.
The original Sam was faithful bearded collie companion to our late Chairman and Managing Director, Michael Berry and came to work with him each day.
Sam’s Club is how we welcome children to each of the family of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues.
Every child between 5 – 10 years receives a ‘welcome’ goody bag with love from Sam.
Sam the Dog sits on every hotel room bed.
Multi-tasking Sam also uses his collar as a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign. On the reverse is a message stating that if you would like to buy a cuddly Sam then 50% of the purchase goes to charity.

Sam’s Splashtime is when our younger guests can have supervised fun in our leisure club swimming pools.
There are lots of Sam the dogs across the world as families can purchase Sam and take him home with them, we can now also tick of Space on Sams travel list!
Every year Sam gives to local children’s charities through a proportion of these sales.
In each of our restaurants, our Sam’s menu for visiting children also helps feed some of the most deprived children in Africa and India, a proportion of the revenue being sent overseas.
Sam in Space is a ‘little brother’ of our standard Sam cuddly toys – a smaller, lighter Sam capable of soaring to great heights.
