David Cameron paid a flying visit to the Low Wood Hotel on 29th May on a campaign trial ahead of the County Council elections on 4th June. He was confident that the Conservatives were “making progress” in Cumbria and said that it was important to support local tourism, the largest employment sector in the county. Touching local issues, Mr Cameron said he was a strong advocate of local GPs and county hospitals, such as Westmorland General Hospital. After the elections, the Tories took over as the largest group with 38 councillors, ahead of Labour on 24 and the Lib Dems 16.
