Tom and Emma Chadwick had a wonderful wedding day at The Midland, filled with smiles, love and laughter and surrounded by their nearest and dearest. Here, Emma shares how their love story started with a bit of a disagreement…
Scones at The Midland – delicious however they are pronounced
We first met for tea and scones in Manchester and argued over how to pronounce scones. It couldn’t have been that bad because the rest, as they say, is history.
Tom totally surprised me by proposing unexpectedly on Christmas morning just before all our family descended. I had no idea he was thinking of asking me – I still think it’s because he’d run out of ideas for a Christmas present!
When we were first engaged we’d looked at a number of venues but nothing felt quite right. Our focus then shifted to moving house and planning the wedding took a back seat. We’d been engaged for a couple of years when, knowing how much I love art deco, Tom booked us a night away at The Midland. At that point we weren’t particularly looking for our wedding venue, but while we were there we both agreed it felt perfect for us and we made enquiries there and then.
The dress was the first one I tried on. It’s Leona by Watters and was simple but elegant, exactly what I was looking for. Tom and his best man wore suits from Reiss. They wanted something fairly light to fit with the beachside feel of our wedding and were under strict orders to go for blue and yellow to match the bridesmaid’s dresses.
There was such a variety of options to choose from it was easy to tailor something that would suit all tastes. Having eaten at The Sun Terrace restaurant and the Rotunda at The Midland a number of times, we knew how wonderful the food was. They certainly didn’t let us down on the day.
Selection of lovely dishes served at The Midland
It was great having the wedding, the breakfast and the evening entertainment all in the one place. The day goes so quick you don’t want to waste time travelling between places.
The Midland is such a beautiful venue with such wonderful light and views that we really wanted to keep the table settings simple. We went for single yellow roses on the tables and a garland on the top table.
Just a few of the cocktails served at The Midland
Rather than table favours we laid on cocktails throughout the day. We knew that our guests would appreciate that more!
I love baking and so was excited at the opportunity to bake a 3 tiered fruit cake for the wedding. Decorating is not my forte though so I kept it simple. White icing, lace and the letters of our initials as the cake topper, in keeping with the art deco style of the hotel.
It’s difficult to pick the stand out moments of the day because there were just so many. Here are a few that make me smile and take me back to our wonderful day at The Midland.
