Free tickets for Lancaster Castle or a trip with Windermere Lake Cruises
Everyone likes a freebie, and here at English Lakes Hotels we are always on the lookout for opportunities to make your stay with us that little bit better. That’s why we are giving our guests free access to selected local leisure attractions.

One of the things we are particularly keen on is showcasing what our local area has to offer, and wherever we can, working in partnership with local businesses and tourist attractions around our venues in Windermere, Lancaster, and Morecambe.

Of course, the natural beauty of the Lake District, the Trough of Bowland and Morecambe Bay offer our guests an extensive natural playground to explore – all for free.

But for the coming months we’ve gone a step further with a couple of great offers whenever you book a stay with us.

Here’s the deal!
As part of our two night winter seasonal special for advance bookings at any of our four venues across the Lake District and North Lancashire, you get free tickets for a memorable boat trip with Windermere Lake Cruises, or complimentary access to Lancaster Castle and the chance to immerse yourself in its fantastic history.

Guests also enjoy a complimentary dinner on the first night of their stay, full English breakfast on both mornings and free access to health club facilities at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa or Lancaster House Hotel.

So, if you’re staying in Windermere at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa or The Wild Boar, you get the chance to see the lake on the water, and if you’re booked into Lancaster House or The Midland in Morecambe, you can delve into the Red Rose county’s medieval past.

Exploring Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle has a fascinating, and often dark past. As far back as Roman times, it offered a crucial defensive position to counter forays by marauding Northern tribes.

In later times, the castle was the scene for some highly influential political and cultural changes, as well as the infamous trials of the ‘Pendle Witches’ and over 200 executions.

Today the Grade 1 Listed Building stands as an intriguing monument described by English Heritage as "not only the North-West's most important historic and archaeological monument but also of international importance".

Guided tours run throughout the day, taking you on a trip back to times of witchcraft, religious persecution, crime and punishment.

Taking a leisurely cruise on Windermere

There’s nothing quite like seeing the fells and spectacular beauty of the Lake District from out on the water.

And what better way to do so than with a boat trip on England’s largest lake with Windermere Lake Cruises.

With your tickets pre-booked and taken care of by us, you can simply step off the pier at Ambleside onto either a traditional lake steamer or a modern launch, then sit back and relax as the boat carries you across the water.

Tickets are provided at reception on check-in to be redeemed for the ‘red cruise’ from Ambleside or Bowness up the lake and back to your starting point, or the ‘yellow cruise’ from Bowness which takes in the stunning scenery along the southern half of Lake Windermere.

Either of the circular tours around the lake take you past secluded bays and small islands of woodlands all surrounded by the majestic, 360-degree panorama of the Lakeland fells.
