Meet the Low Wood Bay Watersports Team

Monday, May 7, 2018 by admin

Summer is our favourite time of year at Low Wood Bay Watersports and the sizzling season is already well under way. With so many activities happening out on the lake, it was quite a challenge to catch up with the team on dry land. But here they are, telling us what they love about life on, and around, the lake.

Paul Brown

Low Wood Watersports Manager

Paul has worked at Low Wood Bay Watersports for 15 years, starting as a water ski and sailing instructor before taking on the management of the Centre. In his spare time, he is involved with the Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard Service, as well as racing classic speedboats. When not on the water, he is currently working on the restoration of a Windermere 17 yacht.

“I look after a team of people who are passionate about teaching others the water sports that they themselves love”.

Paul Brown, Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre Manager

Daniel Wilson

Deputy Manager and Senior Water-ski, Kayak and Powerboat Instructor

Eleven seasons at Low Wood Bay Watersports, working full-time at the Centre from 2006.

“I love everything about my job!”

Gary Lanigan

Senior Instructor

Gary has worked at Low Wood Watersports Centre for twelve years. Works three days a week.

“I’m officially retired, but wouldn’t miss the summer season at Low Wood Bay for anything. I love sailing in any weather”.

Klara Ningerova

Office Manager

Worked for Low Wood Bay for 5 years, first in hotel Reception and, since July 2017, at Low Wood Bay Watersports.

“I organise the facilities and the team, but I’ve also started to get fully involved in many of the water-based activities – learning some of them for the first time. My first experience of Flyboarding was in the middle of February! I was the happiest person when I got above water level and was able to fly!”

“The atmosphere at Low Wood Watersports is quite unique – somewhere between a completely fun, laid back environment and a serious professional world class resort. Even though I am more office base, I feel like I am having a great time every day thanks to my supportive manager Paul and our brilliant team”.

Olivia Irving

Water-ski, Wake-board and Fly-board Instructor

Fourth season at Low Wood Bay Watersports.

“I’ve enjoyed my work as an instructor so much that I am starting university in September to study a BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS”.

“I love…

Seeing the rewards at the end of the lesson, either someone landing a trick, learning how to get up on water-skis, or just seeing someone get off the boat with a grin cheek to cheek”.

“The team are always great to work with and I feel looked after working for English Lakes. The atmosphere is always positive which transfers to the customers, making the whole place an enjoyable place to be”.

Katy Gilbert

Sailing & Paddleboard Instructor

Second season at Low Wood Bay Watersports. Started in 2017 as General Assistant and recently qualified as an instructor.

“I love my job because every day is different and I learn so much from the other instructors. The work can be very challenging, but I like to overcome the challenges”.

“The atmosphere at the Watersports Centre is friendly and supportive and it makes coming to work great fun”.

Michael Jardine

Kayak instructor

Fourth season at Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre, spending the winter season working in the hotel.

Qualifications: Level 1 Coach; 2 Star in Canoe and Kayak; Powerboat Level 2

Favourite Sport: Wake-boarding

“I love…

Teaching a beginner and seeing their skills improve by the end of the season.

Doing Summer Splash  – the sessions are such fun and I love seeing the enjoyment on the children’s faces”.

“Low Wood Bay Watersports is like one big extended family. We are always there for each other and help each other out”.

Declan Turner

General Assistant

“I first got into sailing in 2009. From there I was introduced to kayaking, canoeing and even stand-up paddle boarding! I’m gaining new water sports qualifications whilst working at Low Wood Bay”.

“I love…

Meeting our customers and helping out on the beach with the hired equipment”.

“Term time I’m still at college studying Public Services at Lancaster & Morecambe College, but I can’t wait to come back full time in the summer”.

Josh Roelants

General Assistant

Second season at Low Wood Bay. Studying Business, ICT, Drama and Media at school

“I love…

Wake-boarding, and when not on the the water, Running and High Jump athletic events.”

“My inspiration comes from my Dad and my Uncle Tim who introduced me to water sports”.

Angus Hosking

Just completed a Level 3 Outdoor Adventure Sport Diploma at Newton Rigg College. Also qualified to teach Canoeing and Kayaking.
