Many are tipping it as the top fitness trend for 2017, so the team from Low Wood Bay Health Club made sure they checked it out earlier in the year. Floatfit® HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a full body workout which takes place on water. The team loved it so much, they are bringing it to Low Wood Bay, and Fitness Instructor, Shauna King, tells us a bit more about what we can expect.
In April, fellow fitness instructors, Jade, Emma and I headed down to London to see what all the fuss was about. I used to be a competitive swimmer, so anything on the water gets my attention. We were enrolled on a course with AquaPhysical, creators of Floatfit®, held at the London Olympic Aquatics Centre.
Floatfit is a 30 minute HIIT class taught on an Aquabase board on the water. You can expect to do exercises such as burpees, lunges, squats and v-sits – all on the water. In fact, you can do most exercises normally included in land-based fitness sessions on the board. Because you are engaging little-used muscles required for balance, the core gets a much more intense workout. Don’t worry about falling in – it’s all part and parcel of this exhilarating exercise.

It’s a low impact class so easier on joints, and as you work to your own level, the class is suitable for people of different ages and fitness levels. It definitely improves balance and flexibility as well as muscle strength. Most importantly however, its fun!

We are very excited to introduce it to the new class timetable here at Low Wood Health Club and can’t wait to get started teaching you. Make sure you bring along your sea legs – we’ll provide everything else!
