Oliver is off on his travels. A popular part of the Low Wood Health Club instructor team, Ollie is on the road again. He shares a little bit about some of his most memorable trips, and how working at Low Wood Bay has helped and enabled him to see the world.
When the Health Club was closed during the Low Wood Bay refurbishment I travelled across East Africa for two months at the start of the year. Fellow instructor Emma was also travelling, and together we ventured into Ethiopia, Kenya and spotted the ‘big five’ in Tanzania. This trip was a huge highlight.

I also took short breaks in Bulgaria, Poland and Romania and a road trip to Turkey. I couldn’t say no to a family trip to northern India and Bhutan. Then of course there was Aurora hunting in Iceland and finishing 2017 with a bang in Barcelona on New Year’s Eve.

I’ve been working at Low Wood Health Club for over two years. It didn’t take my colleagues long to realise that I was obsessed with travelling. Andy, the Health Club Manager, has always been really understanding and flexible. He literally goes the extra mile when it comes to stretching the rota.
African Adventures
Working in the team and teaching classes for two years has, without a doubt, increased my confidence and made me more outgoing. These are two essentials in becoming a successful backpacker. I will definitely miss the warm atmosphere, the fun, friendly environment. And of course… all the members.
Family visit to India and Bhutan
My parents did take us on family holidays when we were younger, but I think it stems from my first trip to Australia in 2010. I lived and worked there for a year and loved seeing the sights and experiencing a different culture.
A few come to mind, including a couple here in the Lake District. But overall favourite, I’d have to choose watching the sun rise over the lush mountains of Laos from a hot-air balloon for my 22nd birthday.

Sicily in March to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. Then Canada in the summer for an extended visit.
