Health Club at Low Wood Bay Member Sets Ambitious Challenge

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 by admin

Low Wood Bay Health Club member, Emma Cross, has set herself an ambitious physical challenge. Since 15th October 2018, Emma has run 10 km every day, and will continue to do this until World Cancer Day on 4th February. That is, in total, 112 days – 1,100 km or 26 marathons. Juggling her job as a Regional Fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as a busy family life, Emma is running in recognition of families who are living with a son or daughter facing cancer.

“Every day, seven young people in the UK hear the news that they have cancer. I have the honour of working with many of these families. I LOVE my job, and am constantly humbled by the bravery and resilience shown by those we care for and support”.

Teenage Cancer Trust

The Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity that provides the specialised nursing and emotional support that young people with cancer so desperately need. It works to connect young people and to support them and their families deal with the many ways cancer affects your body, mind and life.  Their Education and Awareness programme helps students in schools across the country to make positive decisions about their health.

“Every young person with cancer should have access to this kind of care, but we simply do not have enough nurses. Right now, we can only reach half of those who need us, so we need the help of our supporters to fund more world-leading nursing care.   Find out how you can get involved at”.

As a result of her challenge Emma would like to raise a minimum of £3,500, and she is well on her way to realising her target. This will either fund  school Education and Awareness presentations, ensuring that young people and their families know the signs of cancer and feel confident to seek help if they need it, or valuable specialist care provided by an outreach nurse.

Emma would love any encouragement as she sets her sights on the finish line. If you’d like to join her in a run or help Emma reach, and exceed, her target for a very worthwhile cause, check out her Just Giving page.
