The Wedding and Events team at The Midland love to celebrate with our wedding couples. Staying in touch after the event is equally important and we get to hear about the highlights of their day, and sometimes a little bit more of their love story journey. Congratulations to Clare and Paul Warbrick. Here’s their story …
We met through our Bridesmaid, Susan, who Clare knew from university and worked with Paul. A group of us went on a day out to the Christmas markets in Manchester and we hit it off straight away.
Four years later Paul proposed on my birthday when I was six months pregnant with our daughter, Chloe. He managed to hide the ring in a kinder egg and proposed when I opened it.
This was on the other side of Morecambe Bay at the Pepperpot just above Silverdale. It’s a special place for us as we love having holidays there and walking around that area.
We’ve stayed at The Midland before for special occasions and we love the Art Deco style. We knew the food would be amazing and we weren’t disappointed! I will never get tired of walking down the staircase- it makes you feel like a film star.
When we had our food tasting we didn’t manage to get a babysitter so had to have it at lunchtime and bring Chloe with us. However, the staff made it feel like a special experience for us as they managed to entertain Chloe by giving her lots of attention! She loves waving and blowing kisses!
The men in the wedding party wore navy lounge suits from Moss Bros with aqua ties and pocket squares.
My dress was from a selection at Nancy Jane Bridal in Stretford, Manchester and my hair was by Guys N Dolls Hair Boutique in Lancaster who we met at the Vintage by the Sea Festival. My make up and nails were done by The Midland Spa who came up to the room.
The bouquets and buttonholes were from Abi’s Arrangements. We also had floral headbands made for our little flower girls but, surprise surprise, they didn’t last long!
We had an amazing confetti drop from the spiral staircase and other pictures at the foot of the stairs.
Since our wedding everyone has commented on how good the food was. We had Smoked Trout for starter, Braised Lamb for main followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding. There were also some really nice options for the children. I t was definitely a real cut above what you would usually get at a wedding.
We had an arrangement from Abi’s Arrangements for the top table and we provided the decorations for the other tables. These were Tea light holders and decanters with gypsophlia. The Midland were brilliant about setting all the tables for us. The name settings were wooden Art Deco names from VM Besboke. The tables were named after Lakeland fells we have walked up and we also put pictures of us at the top as proof we’d done them!
Obviously we couldn’t have picked anything other than kinder eggs! Thankfully we had more than we needed because Lee has a sweet tooth!
A friend of Clare’s mum’s made the cake to fit in with our fell walking theme and we got a topper from atop the tier which showed us with Chloe in a rucksack on a walk.
Our first dance was Crazy Love by Van Morrison …
I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heaven’s open every time she smiles
And when I come to her that’s where I belong
Yet I’m running to her like a river’s song
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
Paul, Mike the best man and the ushers also had fun in the arcades in Morecambe before the wedding.
Although there had been rain in the morning, early evening the sun came out. We were able to walk along the prom in the sunshine. We had pictures with the public art on the prom and our friends sat outside the Rotunda Bar with cocktails.
We’d like to thank our photographers Edwin and Louise Stemp from Wedding Day Photos in Manchester who were fantastic- especially good at making the wedding party and children feel at ease.
The staff at the Midland were fantastic. They really made us feel special and were really accommodating to our guests. The Luxury Suite was amazing- we had to show off our his and hers loos to everyone who visited the room!
Lee and his Wedding and Events team would love to hear from you and help you design your perfect day. Give him a call on 01524 428 370.
