The Low Wood No Wood Cardboard Boat Race, sponsored by Progression Solicitors is one of the areas most unique and fun events.
The clue is in the name – teams of people build, race and ultimately destroy their cardboard creations on and in the waters of Windermere.
Today at Low Wood Bay we were treated to blue skies and calm waters, perfect conditions for a maiden voyage of Admiral Ben Berry’s prototype cardboard boat ‘HMS Wonky’. Ben was also pitted against the fondly named ‘Sea Monster’ (fly-boarder) who will return once again to attempt to demolish all boats that survive the time trial races. To our amusement the boat failed miserably! Watch the video…
Chatting with a member of staff from Progression who have sponsored and helped organise the annual event from its inauguration in 2012, Janett Walker, Solicitor said
As a local business with offices across the South Lakes and Furness Peninsula we feel this is our way of giving back to communities that have supported the firm over the last ten years. We would urge other local businesses and community groups to get a team on the water and make the most of this fantastic area in which we live. It’s a great team building event for staff members and friends with all the fun, of course, of getting very wet!
Keeping the charities local is key to us
said local Councillor Ben Berry, who first had the idea to run the event.
The Low Wood No Wood Cardboard Boat Race takes place on Saturday 14th May 2016.
A family day out with laughs guaranteed, we will be watching this event unfold in coming weeks. For more information and how to enter your team go to www.cardboardboatrace.co.uk. You can also join the chatter on the official Low Wood No Wood Facebook page.
