Everything to do with weddings at The Wild Boar is woven around the individual needs of the bride and groom to create a truly unique day and happy memories to share with family, friends and future generations. We love to work with individuals and companies who have the same ethos and impeccable standards and who share our passion for bespoke weddings.
At our recent photo shoot at The Wild Boar it was great to catch up with Julia Tasker of Julia Tasker Bridal Couture, wedding dress designer and stockist of wedding dresses by leading and award winning British Bridal Designers, Sassi Holford, Caroline Castigliano, Stephanie Allin and Ritva Westenius who make wedding dresses right here in the UK.
How Did You Get Into Fashion Design?
My earliest memories are growing up in a home where the sewing machine seemed to be an integral part of the fixtures and fittings. My mother’s career was creating beautiful bespoke wedding dresses and it was probably watching her and observing the passion for her craft that inspired my love of fashion and in particular, for wedding dresses. To encourage my early interest in design, my parents gave me my first sewing machine when I was just five years old. I have never looked back!
It seemed very natural to follow a professional path in fashion and I graduated from De Montfort University with a BA Hons in Fashion Design. My introduction to the industry involved working in a number of design houses, including Burberry and Coats Viyella. Life at that time was like most little girls’ dream – attending wedding shows in Florence and Paris and getting a close up view of cutting edge fashion design.
And from the Fashion Houses of Paris to Windermere?
After meeting my husband and making the move to Cumbria sixteen years ago was when decided to take the plunge and started my own bridal business creating my own bespoke wedding dresses from a home based studio.
I spent a happy ten years designing and hand making wedding dresses before opening my own Lake District bridal boutique – a dream come true. From my bridal boutique based in Bowness-on-Windermere, only a five minute walk away from the picturesque Lake Windermere, I still design and hand make bespoke wedding dresses for brides-to-be as well as showcasing a portfolio of carefully selected leading British designers known for their quality and elegance.
Describe for us the designs that you’ve chosen for us today …
The Wild Boar is the perfect venue for reflecting a relaxed, very natural wedding atmosphere and lace works perfectly to give a textured, floaty ethereal look.
I have brought along a stunning fit and flare dress by British Bridal designer Stephanie Allin. It’s a mix of a beautiful corded lace and a soft tulle fabric. The slash neckline is very flattering and offers the option of a cover up over the shoulder rather than a strapless neckline. I’ve enhanced like dress by adding an organza and satin belt at the waistline to add a bit of sparkle and shine to the ‘look’.
Are there any wedding dress trends you anticipate in the next year or so?
There are some beautiful blush and pastel colours emerging onto the bridal market and lace will continue to feature strongly, although there is a progression to beaded lace dresses and sequinned dresses that offer a bit of shimmer. Dresses with sleeves, shoulder straps or a capped sleeve are strong and brides are liking dresses that offer the ability to change their ‘look’ from day to evening. For example a bride may wear shrug or detachable shoulder straps with her dress for the wedding service and daytime, and then remove to add a crystaled belt or sash for an evening ‘look’.
And essential elements of making a Bride’s wedding dress dream come true?
As well as the finest of fabrics and getting the detail of the dress right and working with a style to suit the bride’s shape, I think it’s really important to find a wedding dress that reflects the personality of the bride. I spend and hour or two with brides just getting to know them, their likes and dislikes, their dreams and aspirations for their special day and perhaps a little about their family and values. This level of personal service ensures that we find a perfect wedding dress.
