Over the summer months on the English Lakes Facebook Page we invited entries into our Summer Photography Competition. We asked for a wide selection of entries from the Lake District and Lancashire area and received over 250 entries from people with a wide range of abilities; in total all entries received in excess of 4,000 votes. The judges’ shortlist was created from a public vote to select the top 5 people with the most votes.
The Shortlist
Jo-Ann from Cumnock “Sunset view from Low Wood Bay Hotel”
Zaneta from London “Friars Crag – Derwentwater”
Nicola from Liverpool “Glass Lake! – Ambleside”
Murray from Manchester “Sunset on the Midland”
Michael from Lancaster “The southern Lakes – end of a beautiful summer’s day.”
The Winner
The judges selected Michael from Lancaster as the winner for our 2011 Summer Photography Competition. Michael has won a luxury short break for two in one of our 4 star properties. The photograph was taken from the summit of Farleton Fell on the borders of Lancashire and Cumbria in July.
The judges selected the photograph as they liked how the light casts shadows over the patchwork of fields and how the evening haze fades the colours of the distant Lakeland fells. The portrait composition of the photograph frames the landscape and the hot air balloon well which makes for an interesting shot.
The summer photography competition was a huge success and English Lakes would like thank everyone who took part through entering, voting and commenting on the entries.
