Recently, Sandra Gibson, Low Wood Club, started her journey to lose 50 lbs before she was 50. In her next update, she shares with us her results over Christmas and January.
Three Gym sessions each week!
So, I got off to a better-than-expected start – 3 gym sessions a week as part of the 6 week Boot Camp with a range of new exercises tried and 8lbs in weight lost within the first couple of weeks. Now a short break loomed followed by Christmas and the inevitable temptations that are part and parcel of that time of the year.
I’ve got to confess I was nervous and wondered if I had the discipline to keep the diet and exercise going without someone standing at my shoulder keeping me on track! Continue reading “Diet Challenge – ’50 by 50′ Part 3”

Martha Wood, the Reception Shift Leader from Low Wood Bay had an idea to do something fantastic for some of the older members of our local community to spread some Christmas Joy! Lancaster House General Manager Tim Bell, convinces us to try something different for Christmas Day this year.
Having been in the hotel and restaurant game for 25 years, you’ll forgive me for exhaling a deep sigh when the topic of Turkey comes into festive conversation. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against the traditionally seasonal poultry. The sight of a magnificently oversized, perfectly cooked bird adorning the dinner table every December 25th is what we Brits do! Continue reading “3 Tasty Turkey Alternatives for Christmas Dinner”
We have many regular guests who we welcome each year for our festive packages at English Lakes. Mr Peck a regular guest at Waterhead shares with us why he keeps returning…
Christmas 2004 proved a bit of a turning point for my wife and I. For years we had enjoyed a traditional family Christmas at our daughter’s house, but that year building works at her home meant that we had to re-think our plans for over the festive season.
Our initial attraction to Waterhead was that during the Christmas package they did not encourage children under the age of 16. This appealed, not because we dislike children (we have 11 lovely grandchildren!) but it provided a quiet, relaxed break for my wife and myself. Continue reading “Our Tenth Christmas at Waterhead”
Tim Bell, General Manager at Lancaster House has been enjoying the spirit of the festive season in Lancaster.
In the ten years I’ve been here in Lancaster, I’ve watched with keen interest and excitement as the cultural scene and identity of our historic city has flourished. From a noticeable and admirable level of the arts back in 2003, it’s accelerated to a thriving music and theatre scene here in 2013 gaining national recognition and well-deserved accolades.
Without doubt, one of the catalysts and leading lights of this cultural surge has been The Dukes Playhouse. Established in 1971, the converted old church now has 3 unique theatres under its roof all complemented by the popular Gallery and bustling Café Bar. The Dukes has of course gained much of their national recognition for their annual Play in the Park which has been running for over 25 years and is now the UK’s biggest walkabout theatre show. We’ve been proud to co-sponsor this production over the last few years and even more proud that we’ve helped introduce some new fans to this national institution through our theatre breaks.
