2012 Olympic Torch Relay visits Windermere

More details about the route the Olympic Torch will take through the Lake District have been revealed yesterday.

Waterhead Hotel

Waterhead on the shores of Lake Windermere will be the ideal place to see the torch on 21st June

On the afternoon of 21st June 2012, the torch will arrive in Grasmere – then travel along the A591 to Ambleside.

The Torch will then board a steamer from the jetties outside of the Waterhead Boutique Hotel and set sail along Windermere. The torch will sail pass Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina to Bowness Pier, arriving just before 8pm, where a huge event to mark the occasion is being staged on the Glebe.

Both Waterhead and Low Wood Bay will be the perfect location to see the torch on this historic occasion as it passes through the Lake District before the London 2012 Olymic Games.

Les Commandos Percu world premiere

The Glebe in Bowness in the Lakes will be welcoming the Olympic Flame.

On The Night Shift

Les Commandos Percu combines percussion and pyrotechnics to wow audiences

Bowness on Windermere will hold an Olympic Torch evening celebration on Thursday 21 June. As part of a programme for the evening you can also experience one of the opening events of the prestigious London 2012 Festival, On the Night Shift.

This free show will see streams of colour and light blaze across the skies above Lake Windermere. Presented by Lakes Alive, On the Night Shift is a brand new commission from French pyrotechnic wizards Les Commandos Percu, who wowed audiences at Mintfest and Maryport in 2010 and have a worldwide reputation for incredible productions.

On the Night Shift is not a concert, nor is it a firework display, but it brings the most exciting and exhilarating moments of each to create a spectacular event that you’ll remember for a very long time.

Featuring specially selected UK artists, live music, dance and amazing rhythmic percussion, this will be a show not to be missed.
