Wimbledon – Cheering for the Czechs

Adam, at The Wild Boar, was first introduced to tennis when he was a small child growing up in the city of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. Tennis is a very popular sport in the country and him, his Dad and brothers had lots of choice when it came to choosing clay tennis courts in the area.

He grew up in the shadow of tennis great, Ivan Lendl, who was born in Ostrava into a tennis family. Ivan attained World No 1 ranking in 1983, bolstering his claim to the top spot when he defeated John McEnroe in the 1984 French Open final. For much of the next five years, Lendl was a top-ranked player. As most people know, he has recently coached UK’s Andy Murray to great success.

Here in the Lake District he usually play tennis in Ulverston at the large indoor tennis centre. Of course, like much of the Czech and UK nations,  he has been following Wimbledon closely over the the past week and cheering on his fellow Czech players, Tomas Berdych and Petra Kvitova both of whom are expected to do well at Wimbledone 2013. Kvitova has won a grand slam singles title, Berdych is yet to get the grand slam monkey off his back – having reached the finals at Wimbledon once a few years ago.

Laurent Perrier Rose and Strawberry and Cream Tea2

Strawberries and Cream infusion at The Wild Boar

If like Adam, you are in the Wimbledon spirit, why not join the team and The Wild Boar? To celebrate the occasion we have added a little extra choice to the classic seasonal celebration of the British summer.

Our range of speciality loose leaf teas includes Strawberries and Cream infusion which is made from dried strawberries with hibiscus, rosehip, dried yoghurt pieces and natural strawberries and vanilla flavouring. This naturally sweet, fruity and tangy infusion is perfect for the warmer days and can even be enjoyed served over ice.

Plus why not partake in the real thing with a bowl of fresh British strawberries and cream or to be even more extravagant why not add a bottle of Laurent Perrier’s exquisite Rose Cuvee pink Champagne and really celebrate the season in style.
