Our search for community champions continues

We are planning a special summer garden party for 60 community champions in Cumbria and North Lancashire, and would like our local community to get involved.

Broadcaster Eric Robson will host the event at Low Wood Bay on the shores of Windermere  to celebrate our 60th anniversary.

Anyone can nominate someone they feel deserves special recognition for the work they do in the local community.

The community champions could be carers, volunteers in local hospitals, those who give up their time to run local youth groups or people who help protect the environment. They may be people who raise vital funds for local charities or who help organise key community events.

Eric Robson, who chairs the BBC’s Gardeners’ Question Time, says: “There are many people in our communities who give up a lot of their own time to help others, very often without any kind of recognition. This is a great opportunity to say thank you and give them a special day out.”

Each of the winners will be invited to our ‘Grand Garden Party’ on the shores of Windermere on 2nd September. The special guests will enjoy a champagne afternoon tea, with views across the lake to the Langdale Pikes.

Sixty community champions will be chosen to commemorate each of the 60 years English Lakes has been in business.

If you would like to nominate a community champion you should send the details to English Lakes, briefly outlining what you think makes them special. You should include their name, age and what area they live or work in, as well as your contact details.

Nominations can be sent by email to info@englishlakes.co.uk. Alternatively you can leave your nomination on the blog below.

    • Hi John,
Thanks for nominating the Bay Trust Radio. Do you have an individual person from the radio station you would like to nominate? We are currently looking for individuals rather than organisations. If there are a number of people from the station you would like to nominate if you could let me know by reply I will ensure they are added into your nomination.
